Before committing to a session, I’d like to know if Joyful Living is the right fit for me.

Are Joyful Living services covered under my benefits?

Some benefit packages do include services provided by a Registered Social Worker. It is recommended to check in with your insurance company. All supportive counselling sessions will be issued an official receipt that can be submitted for potential reimbursement.
The YINTIMACY Program and any yoga healing programs are not covered under social work services.

What if I miss my appointment or need to cancel?

Please aim to cancel your appointment 24 hours in advance. Missed appointments or cancellations after a 24-hour period are subject to cancellation fees. Late cancellations will be invoiced for 50% of the service fee; no shows will be invoiced for 100% of the service fee.

My appointment is after 5pm, how do I access the building?

Joyful Living is a part-time practice and some sessions are offered after the main building has closed for the day. If your session is scheduled for after 5pm and the main doors are locked, please text (639) 299-4700 and Heather will let you in.

I’ve never been to counselling before, what can I expect?

These services are for you. Joyful Living believes in supporting the unique being you are, and not fitting clients into a box. We will work together to find out the best path forward for you, choosing activities, interventions, and goals that fit your beliefs, comfort level, and accessibility. Joyful Living serves as a guide, a support system, and a sounding board.
Accessing counselling can leave us feeling a number of different emotions. We might leave sessions feeling light and motivated OR we might feel heavy and tired. This ebb and flow can be part of the healing and discovery process.

IF AFTER SESSIONS YOU FEEL…

A little tired, may even take a nap. Feel very tired and sleep for the rest of the day.
Surprised that you shared things you never thought you would. Feel extreme shame.
The next few days after sessions are not out of the ordinary. You even gain more insight. The next few days after a session are very emotional and it takes a few days to get back to your usual self.
You can regulate your emotions and feeling them is not overwhelming. You begin to have suicidal and/or self-harm ideations if you don’t usually have them or they increase and you are now thinking of a plan.
You are going at a good pace. Your nervous system may feel safe and healing can happen. You may be doing too much, trying to process too quickly, or doing it all too soon. Your nervous system may be heightened and/or being traumatized.
